Story #1
Title: The Hot and the Not
"Kirra, I can't believe your dad bought you a car," said Amelia. Amelia was my best friend, ever since preschool. "Oh, it's just a pink Ferrari!" Our laugh tinkled in unison. The girls behind me laughed along too. Suddenly there was a crash and the attention diverted from Amelia and I to the boy now lying face down in the garbage bin. I could recognise him by his dorky clothes. It was Simon Léportac, the geekiest geek ever. The boy behind him was Bradley, the star quarterback of the Redmond High School's football team, the Redmond Bulls, and my steady boyfriend for over three months. Even though I hated people being publicly humiliated, especially sweet little Simon, I could never say that out loud, my rep would go down the drain and my relationship would be gone. And so I went and stood next to Bradley, relishing the way everyone looked at me, some in awe, many in envy. "He looked like he was stalking you, so I decided to teach him a lesson for you babe," Bradley said in his gravelly voice flashing me a Hollywood smile. I grinned back and then sighed. "Let him up, I want to talk to him." I said quietly. "But shouldn't we just leave him there for a couple of hours," he replied, hoping I would go back to my usual self. After blankly looking at my face and realising I was serious, he reluctantly pulled Simon out of the trash and walked away. I pulled Simon by the arm around to the back of the science block. "What was that all about!" I demanded angrily "You almost made me lose my cool!" He quivered, pushing his glasses further up his nose. "I...I...I wanted...to." "Spit it out Simon." I was getting angry and people would get suspicious if I hung around too long. Simon seemed to shrink slightly, and then he drew himself up to his full height and said as confidently as was possible, "I wanted to know if you would like to go to the Homecoming Dance with me." I stood, my jaw hanging wide open, wider than was humanly possible. Did he know who he was talking to? Was he brain-dead? "Absolutely not! I have a boyfriend, you imbecile!" I shrieked, storming off. I didn't care that he was now cowering against the red brick wall. How dare he?
10 Years Later
"Welcome to the Decade reunion of the Senior class of 1997," the principal's voice boomed through the loud speaker. He still terrified me. Why hadn't he been fired yet? My husband Tom was by my side. Many of the people there already had kids and I wanted one however, we were rapidly losing money and could not afford one, we can't even afford a flat right now! Tom was now talking to Bradley, who had been released from gaol last month, and his wife Amelia who was now a world class fashion designer. "Kirra," a familiar voice called. Turning to see where the voice came from I was embraced by a well dressed, handsome man standing with a young girl about two or three years old, he was also standing with a tall woman in her late twenties. The young girl and the woman were also dressed exceptionally. I stood, bewildered by this handsome, confident man. "It's me, it's Simon," he said softly. The tall, dark woman, who I could only assume was his wife, stuck out a hand to greet me. "It is so wonderful to finally meet you Kirra," the woman said, her voice sounding like a symphony, "Simon has told me so much about you." I was still standing in shock."
"This is my wife Laura and my daughter Susanna," Simon said, smiling. The little girl peeked out from behind her father's leg, looking so adorable it hurt. "It has been so long," I finally squeaked shaking their hands. "Laura J. Léportac, nice to meet you." smiled Laura kindly.
"Daddy, I need to use the bathroom," whispered Susanna. Simon walked off with the little girl. I decided to have a deep and meaningful conversation with Laura while he was gone. "So how did you meet Simon?" I asked. "Oh it is a lovely story, it was the night of the homecoming dance, my sister was going, you know Ella, anyway I dropped her off and I saw a lovely young man standing by himself so I went over and said hello, things worked out from there," she exclaimed. Stunned I looked at her and enquired what she did for a living. "Well, me and Simon own our own business called Léportac Enterprises, we are now billionaires." She boasted, showing off. Even though I was slightly peeved, I still managed to maintain the small smile on my face. "That's great, I can't believe I haven't heard of it!" I said, "What do you make?" "Handbags," Laura said, slightly bewildered. At that moment I saw Simon emerge from the family bathroom, tugging along Susanna. He turned to greet someone and then began to walk back to us. I sighed in relief, then caught my breath. "Kirra, this is my friend Michael Dolce," Simon said, introducing me to the tall, dark haired hottie next to him. "Mike, this is Kirra Gabanna."
That night on the way home, guilt rushed over me lke the water in a shower.
Well maybe big brains were better than big muscles.
